
Canberra, Parliament House – National Day of Action, 15 June, 2015
This day of action coincided with World Refugee Week and was marked by the Cage Installation taking up space on the lawns in front of Parliament House. Actor Imogen Bailey and other activists from the Australian Coalition to End the Immigration Detention of Children in an event with over 100 people present protested against the continues detention of over 100 students and called for the government to change their policy of mandatory detention of children.
The National Day of Action was the beginning of a week of private talks with politicians. These meetings were attended by former child detainees Sarah Yahyah and Mohammad Ali Baquiri and students from social justice groups as well as Activists from ChilOut, Catholic Mission and the International Coalition to End Child Detention.
